They All Saw a Cat

- Written and illustrated by Brendan Wenzel;

- A cat walks through it's world and is spied by a person and eleven different animals.
- The illustrations show how each one sees the cat in a very unique way.
- The text reminds us with occacional repetitive lines that it is the same cat with whiskers, ears and paws.
- Each view of the cat reflects the nature of the one viewing it and what has happened with the cat in the past.
- Each view is very different from our own and some images are almost unrecognizable.
- The views are cleverly meshed in the end and all the viewers are shown together. It is a very nice review with opportunity for recall and discussion.
- It is a metaphor for life that can be discussed but stands alone as an engaging story even without that somewhat abstract aspect.
- There is a lovely ending that presents a final view of the cat seeing itself and asking the reader to predict what it will see.
- This book can be read and reread to a child with much food for thought served up along the way.
